Choosing the Right MOD: Mech or Regulated
Choosing the right MOD is vital to your vaping experience! With the hundreds of different MOD options, what makes the difference? Why should you choose a regulated mod? Why should you choose a mech mod? While they both do basically the same thing, there are some major differences you need to consider before choosing which mod to get.

Regulated Mods

Safety Features:

If you are just starting to vape, I highly recommend starting with a regulated mod. Regulated mods have build in safety protections, such as battery protection and low ohm protection. Features such as these are extremely important for new vapers, and even suits advanced vapers. These features will make sure your batteries do not overheat/explode and also keep you from using a coil that has too low of resistance. Choosing the Right MOD: Mech or RegulatedClick To Tweet Regulated mods also have many different options. Most regulated mods on the market have features such as: Variable Wattage, Variable Voltage, and Temperature control. These are just a few of the options that come on most of them. There are many other options, but these are the most basic. These options let you control how much power (or heat) runs through your coils. This can be very important to some vapers, such as myself, since I like to run different ohm coils on a specific wattage. This also allows the user to find his/her sweet spot when vaping.

Pros and cons of Regulated Mods:

  • Built in safety features
  • Control of power
  • Hundreds of options
  • Battery life
  • Easy to use

  • 0.1 ohm resistance is usually the lowest option for coil building (0.06 for TC)
  • Slower ramp up time when compared to mech mods (affects flavor and vapor production)
  • Can get very big and bulky

Mech Mods

Mech mods are the most basic type of vaping. Now, this does not mean it is the easiest. Using a mech mod requires much more knowledge when compared to regulated mods. You absolutely must know Ohms Law and Battery Safety. I say this because mech mods do not have built in safety features. The battery directly connects to the atomizer to fire. This makes it much more dangerous if you do not know how to properly use these devices. Mech Mods are the devices you keep seeing explode. This is because of user error. The users either are using a battery that can’t support the power needed for the coil or they are overheating the battery. When the battery can not push enough power to heat the coil, it literally will heat itself up until it explodes. I do not recommend using a mech mod unless you have a vast knowledge of vaping.

Pros and cons of Mech Mods:

  • Quicker ramp up time
  • More vapor and flavor
  • Size (generally smaller than most mods)
  • Support any ohm build

  • No safety features
  • No variable features
  • Can explode if not used properly
  • Short battery life

My Personal Opinion:

I use both regulated and mechanical mods, but I still prefer regulated mods. I love having the option of varying my wattage and the battery life is just so much better. The only time I really ever use mech mods is if I do competitions. I hope this helps you choose the right mod! What is your opinion? Do you like regulated mods or mech mods better?
